MMC Packaging of Laval, Quebec, Canada, which specializes in turnkey post-molding automation equipment to manufacturers of cans and closures, has modernized its control system with a personal-computer-based industrial Ethernet technology, and a new operator interface, supplied by Beckhoff Automation GmbH of Verl, Germany.
MMC makes machines for cap lining, cap slitting, assembly, closing, vision systems and other custom automation equipment. The company was looking for a control solution to overcome limitations of hardware programmable logic controllers.
MMS standardized on TwinCAT 3 software.
High density EtherCAT terminals in 16-channel format uses standard cables and does not require proprietary fieldbus cards, so you can use any standard Ethernet device
The one-cable design allows MMC packaging to use only a single wire Ethernet cable, dramatically reducing wiring costs and saving 20 to 14 hours of installation time per setup.
