Milliken & Co. is launching a new nucleator for high density polyethylene and a new clarifier for polypropylene. The Spartanburg, S.C., company says the nucleating agent for HDPE can boost productivity and performance while reducing material waste. For injection molded HDPE, It promises improved cycle times, reduced warpage and shrinkage, better pigment leveling and higher stiffness and heat resistance. It also allows thinner part walls for more design freedom. Millad NX 8000 clarifier allows ultra-clear PP in thermoformed packaging. Milliken dubs the additive its fourth generation of PP clarifiers and says it can make PP competitive with PET and polystyrene in thermoforming, blow molding and injection molding. Clarified PP has lower density than PET but provides equal stiffness, according to the company. Such PP is compatible with PP films commonly used in sealing PP food trays and container bases, making them more recyclable, Milliken says. Tel. 864-503-2020, email wim.vandevelde@milliken.com.
