KW Plastics reports one of its recycled polypropylene grades has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for food contact at levels of up to 100 percent recycled content.

KWR621 FDA now is appropriate for use in disposable cutlery, soup containers, hot and cold drink cups and similar packaging. Less than a year ago, KW received FDA approval for the resin in reusable food crates and pallets.

“The demand for food grade (post-consumer resin) is growing each day,” notes KW Plastics Recycling general manager Scott Saunders.

KW Plastics in Troy, Ala., claims to be the world’s largest recycler of HDPE and PP. Its recycling division recycles post-consumer resins for sale into a variety of consumer and industrial markets.
