Davis-Standard LLC has installed a lab line at its headquarters in Pawcatuck, Conn., for medical tubing.
Customers can test resins, make parts and do downstream research and development. The lab line is in a clean room.
“This line provides a fully equipped option to develop new products and test equipment, which is aligned with our commitment to support customer profitability,” said Wendell Whipple, vice president of Davis-Standard’s pipe, profile and tubing group.
The line features two direct-drive MEDD extruders with interchangeable barrels, with diamters of 1 inch and three-quarters of an inch and a length-to-diameter ratio of 24:1.
Turning to blown film news, Davis-Standard introduced the Upjet air ring, which has a stalk configuration, improved internal-bubble cooling and a venturi ring design. The company result is a cooling increase of up to 25-40 percent over similar designs.
“The Upjet is ideal for blown film processes requiring increased rate and improved quality, especially in commodity markets such as stretch film, can liners and industrial films,” said Rick Keller, vice president of blown film.
The Upjet air ring can be retrofitted on existing blown film lines.
