A Japanese company has introduced a versatile, dry-type unsaturated polyester molding compound.
Japan U-Pica Co. Ltd. says its Vyloglass is a highly efficient molding compound suitable for injection, transfer and compression molding. The company claims it has good mechanical strength and moldability and is easy to handle and store.
Vyloglass has heat resistance and electric properties that help it compete with conventional compounds like polyphenylene sulfide and polybutylene terephthalate. U-Pica says it is non-flammable but does not contain halogen chemicals. It is forgiving to process, with minimal deflects and shrinkage, according to U-Pica.
The thermoset is supplied in pellet form. The company says it can cut costs because it is molded with runnerless technology, an ability based on its heat stability in the injection cylinder and low viscosity.
U-Pica of Tokyo is majority owned by Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Inc.
